Full Size Engine Mockup

In their 40 plus years Malcolm Nicholls Limited (MNL) has worked closely with the automotive sectors in most departments if not all. MNL were approached by a 1^st tier automotive supplier. Their requirement was for a full size lightweight model of an engine, this was to be used for external exhibition purposes. The benefit of a lightweight model is to save on shipment costs, Health & Safety and its also an easier process of getting the model it to the desired location. The engine was produced using a variety of in-house processes. For the main body of the engine both SLA (Stereolithography) and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) components were used. They were then hand finished by MNL’s team of highly experienced model makers to its required finish such as a smooth metal effect. Some components were machined in metal to give it the more realistic look. A few production ancillary components were used to add that real look to the engine. The final model was also supplied with a plinth and company logo. MNL also supplied models with a perspex cover and a purpose built flight case. Images courtesy of Mahle Powertrain Ltd.
