MAHLE Powertrain (MPT) approached us with a time-critical 3D printed model. They needed a high-impact exhibition model to showcase their groundbreaking M3x battery module – a game-changer for performance EVs. MPT’s innovative M3x battery boasts:
- Superior Cooling: Ensuring sustained high performance without derating.
- Industry-Standard Design: Utilising 21700 lithium-ion cells for optimal packaging, thermal management, and scalability.
- Modular Architecture: Enabling customisable configurations for diverse voltage, capacity, and packaging needs.
How we achieved it:
MNL’s expertise in rapid prototyping proved to be the perfect fit. Given a tight deadline, the team embarked on a rapid development process:
- Collaborative Planning: Through in-depth discussions with MAHLE Powertrain, we devised a multi-faceted fabrication strategy. We needed the solution to be strong and durable enough for multiple shows, cost-effective, and speedy with the timeframe given we needed to have the model ready in a matter of weeks.
- Hybrid Construction: To achieve the desired strength and aesthetics, the model combined various techniques:
- Laser-Cut Acrylic Walls: Provided a stable base and showcased internal components.
- CNC-Machined Side Structures: Ensured strength in detailed vulnerable areas.
- Laser-Cut Decorative Cladding: Added a decorative but realistic touch.
