Thiery Mugler Stars

This Paris based fashion brand was launched in 1973 by designer Thierry Mugler. The Thierry Mugler brand is evolving its identity in retail as they set to unify their fragrance lines under one single brand name and logo.

The Thierry Mugler Angel Star with sculpted facets that reflect light and shadows.

Malcolm Nicholls Limited (MNL) produced an oversized 3D printed ‘master model’ using Stereolithography (SLA) as this process yields the best surface finish.

Once built, the 3D printed model was given to MNL’s finishing department. The finish for the star had to be a perfect gloss as when the final metalizing coat is applied it will pick up any surface imperfection. Once the finishing department had achieved a perfect gloss the star was to be used as a pattern for MNL soft tooling (silicone Tool).

Castings from this tool were produced in a high temperature material as the metalizing lacquer process is produced at high temperature. The final metalizing coat was in a high shine chrome effect.

These models were to be used in store as point of sale models.
